USMCA / CUSMA Duty-Free Info
USMCA / CUSMA Duty-Free Information for U.S. Customers
All KDN Performance products are designed, machined, and assembled in-house in Canada. Because of this, our parts qualify for USMCA / CUSMA duty-free treatment when imported into the United States.
If you were charged border fees specifically labeled as tariffs or import duty, this page explains how to dispute or request a refund.
What is USMCA / CUSMA?
The USMCA (United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement), called CUSMA in Canada, is the trade agreement that replaced NAFTA. Under this agreement, many Canadian-made goods can enter the United States with 0% duty, as long as they meet the rules of origin.
Our KDN Performance shifters and related components are classified as:
- HS / HTS Code: 8708.93.7500 – Gearbox parts and accessories for motor vehicles
- Country of Origin: Canada
- Manufacturing: Designed, machined, and assembled in-house at KDN Performance (New Brunswick, Canada)
Because of this, KDN shifters and related components should normally be cleared into the U.S. without import duty being applied. If duty was charged, it is usually a carrier / brokerage error that can be corrected.
What fees might you still see?
Even when duty is 0% under USMCA, you might still see some charges from the carrier, such as:
- Brokerage / clearance fees (UPS / FedEx charge for handling customs paperwork)
- State sales tax in some U.S. states
- Small handling or "advancement" fees
These are different from tariffs or import duty. The information on this page is focused on getting duty/tariffs removed or refunded when they were charged by mistake on KDN products.
Downloadable Customs Documents
You can download our standard customs documents here:
